Setting the borders of your block paving surface:

Let’s look at a couple of examples of block paving and edging. When it comes to whether it is better to lay your edging before your entire block paving surface, you should know why it’s better to start with the edges rather than starting in the middle.

There is a section of paving Sherbourne that has a standard edging course. This will have full blocks running throughout the paved surface. In our scenario – which is not best practice, the edging may then be placed alongside it. blocks may have to be cut to fit the edges. The blocks will be cut in order to position themselves properly – and they will have to have a line marked on the blocks in order that they can be accurately split before they are properly fitted.

Take, for a second example, a scenario where the pavement is next to a prebuilt structure like a wall. As the wall is in the way, more accuracy is required as both sides of the edging need to be factored in.

The number of tools that are required when you do not start with the edges increases as attempts to fit the edging properly. A taut line of string or a rule guide will be required for use – and more expertise and tools pertaining to arcs and other geometry.

Many of these tools are unnecessary if the block paving Shrebourne is carried out in the professional manner that you expect.

In either example, it is better to have the edging already in place before the entire surface has been laid. You should note that if your paving specialist does not lay the edging before the rest of the paving surface, you ought to get a second opinion as they may not be aware of the principles involved in block paving.
