There are two main types of block bricks, concrete and clay, but whats the difference?
When considering which block paving bricks to have for your driveway the first thing to consider is which type you are going to opt for. Concrete bricks are by far the most popular choice and what most pavers use, is it also often hard to notice the different when looking. Below is more information comparing both clay and concrete bricks.
Concrete Bricks

- Relatively cheap
- Mass produced commercially available
- Ideal for driveways, patios and pathways
- Plenty of shapes/designs to choose from
- Textured brick blocks available
- Highly accurate sizes
- Wide choice of block depths, from 40mm to 100mm or more
- Colours may fade over time
- Aggregate can become exposed over time
- Should last at least 25 years

Clay Bricks

- Prices higher than concrete, depending on colour
- Very hardwearing
- Natural colour will not fade
- Patterned pavers available
- Prone to mosses and weeds
- Size tolerance is quite variable due to firing process
- Mostly square or rectangular
- Hard to cut and shape
- More limited choice of block depths
- Will last longer than concrete
